Company History
A look at our Past.
To get to the roots of the company you have to go back close to a hundred years, when what
would eventually become Highland Ford was first established. In 1916 a dealership by the name
of Eastern Automobile Company was set up in downtown New Glasgow, at this time the
dealership sold cars from Ford and the now default brands of Hudson and Essex. In 1928 the
dealership moved to another building located just a street up from the previous one, and before
the 1920’s were over the dealership would drop Hudson and Essex and switch exclusively to the
sale of Ford vehicles. The name of the dealership was changed for the first time in 1938 to Vee
Eight Motors, a name which paid homage to the V8 engine designed and built by Ford. After
spending sixty one years in their downtown location Vee Eight Motors moved further up town to
where the shopping mall and other dealerships were located. The second name change for the
dealership came in 1999 to what it currently is now: Highland Ford.
A year after that, current owners Eric and Linda Barker purchased the dealership and
brought with them a vision of excellence in sales and service which was recognized when the
dealership became Blue Oval Certified. In 2004 the dealership opened the doors of it’s brand
new facility just outside of NewGlasgow off the Trans-Canada highway, which is where it
operates today. Coincidently this opening was also shared with an important date for Ford, the
100 year anniversary of the company’s presence in Canada.
